Defying Cruelty of Occupation, Family of Killed Palestinian Child Opts to Donate His Organs

GAZA, November 6, 2005 (IPC + Agencies) - - The family of the child Ahmad Ismail Khateeb, 12, who was killed by the Israeli occupation, responded to the demand of Haifa Hospital of donating the organs of their murdered son's body for the benefit of some patients.

Mustafa Haboub, Ahmad's uncle, described the response of his nephew's family to the inquiry of the hospital as a clear-cut distinction between the nature of the bloody Israeli occupation which killed him and the nature of the family which seeks life for the others; no matter they are Israelis or Palestinians.

It was far beyond all the expectations of Ahmad's father that the happiness of the first day of Eid Al-Fiter would turn into a bullet lodged in the head of his pampered son.

Ahmad, who died this morning, spent the three day of the Eid in the intensive care unit of Haifa Hospital. He was shot in the leg and head on the fist day of Eid.

Ahmad's father, Abu Mohammad, dismissed the account of the Israeli soldiers who claimed that the incident was prompted by suspicion about a plastic rifle Ahmad, as they allege, was carrying, and said that his son was on his way to buy toys when he was shot dead, and that he found the pocket money of Eid which he gave him was still in his pocket; nothing of it was spent.

Abu Mohammad added that his son was murdered through a premeditated crime of killing, explaining the way in which his son was killed in accordance to the account of the children of his neighborhood who witnessed the crime, "the Israeli soldiers shot my son firstly in the pelvis and when he tried to stand up again they shot him in the head."

He wondered surprisingly how it happens that a child shorter than 120 centimeters could pose a threat against armed-to-teeth troops.

He also mentioned that he was prohibited from escorting his son to the hospital of Haifa under the pretext that he was one day a prisoner.

Furthermore, he considered his son's killing a war crime, and called on the Arab members of the Israeli Knesset and the judicial organizations to pursue this issue and unmask the heinous acts of the occupation against Palestinian civilians.

On his part, Mohammad Baraka, Arab member of the Israeli Knesset, said that the decision of the family to donate the organs of their son was a sublime humanitarian act that proves to be above the atrocity and the terrorism of the Israeli occupation.

Baraka stressed that the murdered child was not carrying a plastic rifle, as the soldiers have claimed, and his pocket money was still complete in his pocket.

He also demanded an impartial committee to investigate the crime, referring that the committees that are formed by the occupation are basically set out to obliterate the facts, inquiring to bring the criminals to a just account that in turn would be a deterrent to those who have criminal propensity.
